After graduating high school at seventeen years old (1974), I moved into a yoga ashram and began my journey of learning and practicing Kundalini yoga, the yoga of awareness. In the ashram, we would do 2 ½ hours of Kundalini yoga and meditation each day. We also learned massage techniques and Asian yogic bodywork. Along the way, I taught yoga and meditation.
I attended Cal State LA to study pre-med, biology and cell physiology/genetics.
I graduated Chiropractic school Magna Cum Laude in 1989 with a Bachelors degree in Human Biology and a Doctors degree in Chiropractic. After graduation, I opened my first practice in Malibu, California working with the Malibu Gym. This is where I met and worked with athletes of all levels, from elite to professional. I also worked with people in the movie industry. I developed a treatment style of using biomechanical analysis, Chiropractic adjustments and myofascial release with Kundalini yoga to achieve exceptional results. I wanted my patients to get out of pain, but I also wanted their body to reach a state of strength, flexibility and coordination for a feeling of complete ease in the body and peace of mind.
As my career progressed, I attended classes from Dr. Jeffrey Bland who subsequently started the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). Biochemistry with diet and nutrition was a great combination with the Chiropractic treatment approach that I was developing.
A natural progression from my background was to also learn acupuncture. I took the post graduate course from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, accredited through the New York College of Chiropractic in 1996-7. The college has been teaching acupuncture since the early 1970’s to Chiropractors. Now I was able to deliver treatments to my patients that included biomechanical analysis, myofascial release, Kundalini yoga, biochemistry-based nutrition and acupuncture.
Some years later, I received certification in Dr Brimhall’s 6 steps to wellness.
With my previous knowledge and experience, I feel that my current treatments have matured to a level that yields great results for my patients’ overall wellbeing.
In 2000, I met a Tibetan meditation master, Chhoje Rinpoche. He was kind enough to take me under his wing and teach me. Since meeting this wonderful teacher, I start each day once again with meditation and mindfulness. I believe this greatly enhances my ability to be sensitive to my patient’s needs.
